Three services, three different jobs
Pearson's Terminal Link train, hotel shuttles and UP Express serve different routes. Knowing which one connects your actual locations is more useful than a general claim that a hotel is close to the airport. Start with your arrival terminal and the complete hotel address.
Terminal Link connects airport stations. A hotel shuttle is a property-specific road service with its own arrangements. UP Express connects Pearson with downtown Toronto and intermediate rail stops. None of those descriptions should be substituted for the others in an appointment plan.
Terminal Link: Terminal 1, Terminal 3 and Viscount
Toronto Pearson describes Terminal Link as a free, accessible service linking Terminal 1, Terminal 3 and Viscount station. It operates around the clock, with current service details provided by the airport. Allow time to reach the station and walk onward at the other end.
Sheraton Gateway is connected to Terminal 3. Alt Hotel Toronto Airport is beside the Viscount station area. The relationship between those properties and Terminal Link is different from a scheduled hotel shuttle, but neither removes the need for check-in and confirmed room access.
Hotel shuttles: check the property instructions
Pearson maintains a directory of hotel shuttles with property information. Use it to locate the hotel, then confirm the current pickup point, operating arrangements, reservation requirements and any charges directly with the property. Do not assume all airport hotel shuttles are free or operate to an identical schedule.
Ask about the return journey as well as arrival. A service that gets you to the hotel may have different arrangements for an early departure. Weather, traffic and waiting time can affect a road transfer, so an appointment should not end at the precise moment you intend to leave.
UP Express: the downtown connection
UP Express is the rail route between Pearson and Toronto's Union Station, with intermediate stops. Its airport station is at Terminal 1; a Terminal 3 passenger uses the airport connection to reach it. Consult the current official service information for schedules, fares and travel times.
It is not a shuttle to individual airport hotels on Dixon Road, Caroga Drive or Dixie Road. A downtown plan and an airport-hotel plan can involve different transport and accommodation choices. This collection focuses on Pearson-area hotel locations rather than assuming a city-centre detour fits every connection.
How the terminal system evolved
The airport opened as Malton Airport in 1938. Its official history records Aeroquay 1 opening in 1964, Terminal 2 in 1972, Terminal 3 in 1991 and the present Terminal 1 in 2004. Terminal 2 was subsequently demolished as the airport's layout changed.
These developments help explain why a hotel can be closely associated with one terminal while another property relies on nearby roads. Current station signs and official airport instructions take precedence over memories of an older layout or a previous trip.
The practitioner has a separate arrival route
A guest may arrive by shuttle while an independent practitioner travels by car or another service. Ask how visitor parking, equipment unloading and lobby access work. A hotel's airport shuttle should not be assumed to carry outside providers or their equipment.
Provide the complete name and address, particularly for the two Sheratons, the two Sandmans and the three neighbouring Caroga Drive hotels. The Maps links in this guide search both name and address to reduce ambiguity; live routing and entrance details still need checking when travelling.
Build transport into the appointment
For an arrival-day visit, wait until room access and the realistic start window are clear. For a departure-day appointment, work backward from the airline's current guidance and your confirmed hotel transfer. Include dressing, luggage, checkout and the walk to the pickup point.
The layover guide covers connections in more detail. Use the hotel directory to identify the correct property, then confirm its current arrangements directly rather than treating a directory listing as a transport reservation.
